About Marine Mud Challenge

 

 

History

In the fall of 2007, Four Marines from the Marine Corps Detachment Fort Gordon traveled to Columbia, South Carolina to compete in the 14th Annual USMC Mud Run.  Even though tired, sore and bruised, all four had the time of their lives.  During the long drive back, the Marines discussed why Fort Gordon couldn't have a similar event.  The next morning they visited the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Special Events Coordinator and asked that very question.  He stated that unfortunately, a lack of manpower and an event host had prohibited the event from coming to post.  The Marines bringing their typical "Gung-Ho" attitude volunteered to build the course and host the event if MWR would help coordinate the logistics.  With that partnership in place, the Marine Mud Challenge was born and has developed into an annual event which started in 2008 aboard Fort Gordon.  It is hosted by the Marine Detachment Fort Gordon in association with Fort Gordon MWR with the support of the Fort Gordon Garrison Commander.

Proceeds

 

One hundred percent of all revenue generated by this event is contributed to MWR programs and events to support all Fort Gordon service members and their family members. These events improve readiness, mental and physical fitness, and foster a family atmosphere amongst service members while enjoying all that the CSRA has to offer.
